  1. General Information

Thank you for choosing to submit your manuscript to the ANATOLIA JOURNAL OF MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES. Our journal welcomes original, scientifically rigorous studies that contribute to the fields of medicine and health sciences. Authors are strongly encouraged to carefully review the Journal Policies, Editorial Principles, Peer Review Process, and Author Guidelines before submission. Manuscripts prepared in accordance with the requirements outlined in this guide can be evaluated, reviewed, and published more efficiently and smoothly. Therefore, authors should ensure that their manuscripts fully comply with the journal's formatting requirements and publication policies and that all required documents are uploaded completely through the submission system.

All manuscripts submitted to the journal are initially evaluated by the Editorial Board for their compliance with the journal’s aims and scope, ethical standards, and author guidelines. Manuscripts that do not conform to the formatting requirements or technical specifications may be returned to the authors for revision. Manuscripts that fall outside the scope of the journal may be rejected without being sent for peer review.

In the ANATOLIA JOURNAL OF MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES, a maximum of two (2) articles may be published in the same issue with the same author listed as the first author. In addition, an author may publish a maximum of six (6) articles within a calendar year.

Aim and Scope

Anatolia Journal of Medical and Health Sciences (Anatol J Med Health Sci) is a national and international peer-reviewed academic journal. The journal was established to disseminate original, previously unpublished, and not simultaneously submitted clinical and experimental research articles, review articles, full-text conference/symposium proceedings, rare case reports, editorial opinions, and letters to the editor containing the experiences, perspectives, and comments of experts in their respective fields.

The journal accepts submissions from Türkiye and around the world in the fields of Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nutrition and Dietetics, Midwifery, Nursing, Health Management, Health Economics, Health Tourism, Sports Sciences, Occupational Health and Safety, and Health Technologies.

Anatolia Journal of Medical and Health Sciences (Anatol J Med Health Sci, ISSN: 3108-6039) has been published three times a year (April, August, and December) since 2025.

The journal accepts manuscripts prepared in either Turkish or English. However, manuscripts written in English are strongly encouraged in order to enhance the international visibility, accessibility, and citation potential of published studies.

All submitted manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the grammatical, spelling, and punctuation rules of the language in which they are written (Turkish or English) and should be presented in a clear, concise, and academic style. Manuscripts found to be inadequate in terms of language quality and expression may be returned to the authors for revision before being considered for scientific evaluation.

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. It is assumed that all authors have read and approved the submitted manuscript and share responsibility for its content.

All submissions are initially evaluated by the Editorial Board for compliance with the journal’s aims and scope, ethical standards, language and writing quality, scientific presentation, and author guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected without being sent for peer review.

Manuscripts that successfully pass the preliminary evaluation are reviewed by at least two independent experts in the relevant field under a double-blind peer-review system to ensure an objective and impartial evaluation process. Within this process, the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential.

If revisions are requested following the peer-review process, the manuscript and reviewers’ reports are returned to the corresponding author. Authors are required to complete the requested revisions within the specified period and resubmit the revised manuscript through the online submission system.

The final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript is made by the Editor-in-Chief based on the reviewers’ recommendations and the editorial evaluation. The authors bear full responsibility for the opinions, interpretations, and scientific content presented in their published work.

In accordance with the publication ethics and plagiarism policies of the Anatolia Journal of Medical and Health Sciences, a similarity (plagiarism) report for the submitted manuscript must be uploaded to the system by the corresponding author at the time of submission. The Editorial Board reserves the right to request additional ethical documents, declarations, or explanations when deemed necessary.

During manuscript submission, all author information must be entered completely and accurately into the system, and the corresponding author and author order must be finalized. After submission, adding, removing, or changing the order of authors is generally not permitted. However, in exceptional cases, such requests may be considered by the editorial office provided that they are supported with detailed justification and written approval from all authors. No authorship changes are allowed after the manuscript has been accepted.

All abbreviations used in the manuscript must be defined at their first occurrence in both the abstract and the main text. After the definition, the abbreviation should be provided in parentheses and used consistently throughout the manuscript. For example: Short-Chain Fatty Acids (SCFA). In the text, SCFA should be used thereafter.

Genus and species names should be written in italics. At their first mention in the text, the full genus name should be written out, and it may be abbreviated in subsequent mentions. When referring to a species, the genus name should not be used alone; care should be taken when using “sp.” (singular) or “spp.” (plural).

Names of genes, proteins, enzymes, drugs, and biological agents should be written according to current international standards. Generic names should be used instead of commercial product names whenever possible; when trade names must be used, the manufacturer, city, and country information should be provided.

Please ensure that equations are editable. In the text, a space should be placed on both sides of equality and relational symbols such as <, ±, =, etc. The SI system should be used for units and symbols.

In the manuscript text, as well as in figures and tables, a period (.) must be used as the decimal separator (e.g., 4.75 instead of 4,75). All decimal numbers in the text or tables must therefore be written using a period.

For example: %49.56 or mean 24.36 ± 2.45.

No space should be left between the % sign and the number. For example: %48.64.

The “/” symbol should not be used in units; instead, a space should be placed between unit components (e.g., m/s should be written as m s⁻¹, kg m/s² should be written as kg m s⁻²).

In Turkish manuscripts, the percentage sign is written before the number, whereas in English manuscripts it is written after the number. For example, in Turkish: %57.6; in English: 49.2%.

When using parentheses ( ), quotation marks “ ”, and the slash /, no spaces should be left immediately inside these symbols. For example, there should be no space after opening or before closing parentheses.

In lists within the text, numbers should not be used; instead, the bullet symbol “•” should be used.

Statistical values such as significance (p < 0.05), mean (X ± SD), analysis of variance values (F, t, z), correlations (R, r), and other statistical indicators should not be italicized.

A space should be placed between numbers and units (e.g., 9 kg P₂O₅ ha⁻¹, 13 kg m⁻¹ s⁻², 30 N m, 2 dS m⁻¹, 15 °C, and %41). Exceptions include degree, minute, and second symbols used for angular measurements (°, ′, ″), which should be written immediately after the number without a space (e.g., 22°, 33′, 50″).

All visual materials other than tables (such as drawings, photographs, images, graphics, etc.) should be defined as “Figure.” Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1) unless there is only one table or one figure in the manuscript. In English manuscripts, they should be written as Table 1 and Figure 1.

Each table and figure must have a short, descriptive title. Tables and figures should appear in the manuscript after they are cited in the text.

Tables
• Tables should be placed in appropriate locations within the text.
• The title should be placed above the table.
• The title should be written in 10-point font.
• Table content should be prepared in at least 8-point font.

Example:
Table 1. Demographic characteristics of the study group

Figures and Graphics
• The title should be placed below the figure.
• They must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
• They should be prepared in JPEG, PNG, or TIFF format.

Authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions from the relevant copyright holders for any materials taken or adapted from other sources, including figures, tables, images, text excerpts, questionnaires, scales, software, or any other copyrighted material. Documentation of such permissions must be submitted to the editorial office upon request. All legal and financial responsibilities arising from copyright permissions belong to the authors. Anatolia Journal of Medical and Health Sciences does not cover any fees or expenses related to obtaining permissions and does not accept responsibility in this regard. If the required permissions cannot be obtained, the relevant materials must not be included in the manuscript.

Footnotes should be numbered consecutively. Footnotes related to tables and figures should be indicated using superscript lowercase letters (a, b, c, etc.). Appropriate symbols (e.g., *, **, ***) may be used for statistical significance levels and other specific explanations, and their meanings must be clearly defined in the footnotes. No references should be cited in footnotes; bibliographic information must be included only in the References section.

Example

Early embryonic development in mice, known as the preimplantation period, begins when the egg and sperm fuse to form a totipotent zygote. The zygote undergoes successive asymmetric cell divisions that ultimately produce a blastocyst composed of three distinct lineages: trophoectoderm (TE), epiblast (EPI), and primitive endoderm (PrE) [1]. The first two cleavage divisions proceed more slowly than subsequent ones, and as development continues, blastomeres lose their spherical form and adhere tightly through E-cadherin-mediated junctions, a process known as compaction [2,3]. The compacted embryo forms the morula, which later develops into the blastocyst, marking the onset of cell fate determination and loss of full developmental plasticity. Although cells isolated from four- or eight-cell stage embryos cannot develop independently, they retain complete developmental capacity when combined with other blastomeres in experimental chimeras [4,5].

The establishment of cell polarity plays a crucial role in lineage specification during this stage. Polarity formation generates an apical–basolateral axis, allowing cells to organize asymmetrically and adopt distinct fates. Polarization occurs shortly after compaction, within a few hours, and separates the outer polarized cells from the inner non-polarized cells. Consequently, the polarized outer blastomeres form the TE, contributing to the placenta, whereas the non-polarized inner cells constitute the inner cell mass (ICM), which gives rise to both EPI and PrE [6,7].  This first lineage segregation is regulated by transcription factors: OCT4 and Nanog are expressed in the ICM and maintain pluripotency, while CDX2 specifies TE identity [8].
